Grooming Info
I have been a licensed professional groomer for 10 years and I
thought you may enjoy the tricks I have learned over the years on
grooming  the Yorkshire Terrier.
Oatmeal Shampoo is what I wash my dogs in, this helps from drying
out there skin. I then put a Cream rinse on and let set 2 min's rinse I
squeeze the water off the coat, and towel dry.
Spray THE STUFF on their coat at least 15 sprays which is diluted.
Take your Slicker brush and brush while blow drying you will find
THE STUFF will make your Yorkies hair very slick and may comb
out small tangles in the hair, not to mention if you have a harsh coat
on your Yorkie it will soften it and leave it repelling dirt. If your
Yorkie has large matting spots in the coat use a medium Oster
Rake. This thing is great and will keep you from shaving the coat or
cutting out huge knots leaving bald spots. After you have the Yorkie
sleek and pretty, Shave the ears less then half to the tip on both side
front and back.
You can finish them by taking scissors and cutting the hair along the
cartledge to make an upside down V.
I have A LOT of people coming in with lopped eared Yorkies and
wonder why, most of the time they haven't been shaved and many
breeders do not tell them anything about it. Hair gets heavy
especially on thick coated Yorkies and the cartledge gets weak and
breaks forcing the ears to flop and stay flopped.
If your Yorkies ear's fall around 3 or 4 months old don't panic, they
are teething and its very normal, most of the time they will be back
up within 2 weeks.
I always shave the belly, bottom and genital area for cleanliness. It
keeps the smell down when they potty.
I also trim the hair off the bottom of the paws to keep their traction
on the floor and keeps them from having wet feet after an outside
romp.
Take your Medium Tooth Comb and part the hair down the back
making a skirt, feel free to neaten and play around with trimming a
few hairs to see how you like the coat to look everyone is different. I
finish off with a cologne which is my favorite and smells like spring
floral.
I hope you can take my experience and use it to better help you.
